Five days of adventure, friendship and summer fun in one of Ireland’s most spectacular outdoor settings. Based beneath the stunning Errigal, the Donegal Teen Getaway gives 13–16 year olds the chance to hike mountains, explore the Atlantic coastline, take on outdoor challenges and make new friends — all while enjoying a proper break from their phones. It’s five days of being outside, trying new things, challenging yourself and loving the outdoors.

Five Days of Adventure

The Donegal Getaway is about getting outside and making the most of an incredible part of Ireland. The programme includes a mountain adventure around Errigal, a day exploring the Atlantic coast, wilderness skills, outdoor games and team challenges.

Hike Errigal Take on the challenge of one of Donegal’s most iconic mountains and enjoy the spectacular views.

Explore the Coast Get out onto Donegal’s beaches and Atlantic coastline.

Wilderness Adventure Develop practical outdoor skills while having fun outside.

Team Challenges Outdoor games and challenges that get everyone involved.

The exact programme will adapt to weather and conditions, but the aim is simple: keep everyone active, involved and enjoying the outdoors.

Your Own Base for the Getaway

Active Ireland has exclusive use of the entire hostel for the five-night stay, so there are no other hostel guests staying alongside the group. Teens stay in separate male and female dorms, with bedding provided and full board included. Our experienced staff are based with the group throughout the getaway, with high staff-to-teen ratios providing supervision, support and reassurance.

Switch Off. Get Outside. Make Friends.

Phones take a back seat for the five days. Teens have a short opportunity each day to check in with home, but otherwise the focus is on what’s happening around them — hiking, exploring, competing, laughing, talking, taking on challenges and making new friends. It’s amazing what happens when a group of teenagers puts their phones away and gets outside together.

Evenings Are Part of the Adventure

The fun doesn’t stop when we come back from the day’s adventure. Evenings are filled with organised activities designed to keep the group together and having fun. Campfires, S’mores, hot chocolate, games, team challenges, music and stories are all part of the experience. If the weather isn’t on our side, we’ll bring the fun indoors with quizzes, board games, movie nights, talent shows and activities such as silent discos.

How to Get There

The Donegal Teen Getaway is based at Errigal Hostel, beneath the spectacular Errigal Mountain. Families can drop teens directly to the hostel, or travel by public transport to Letterkenny. Optional Letterkenny Shuttle

A return shuttle from Letterkenny to the hostel will be available for families who prefer to travel by train or bus. €35 return per person.
