Our Cycle Training Offerings

Cycle Right Programs

  • National Standard Training: CYCLE RIGHT is the National Standard for Cycle Training in Ireland. Produced and supported by the Department of Transport, the Road Safety Authority, and Cycling Ireland, this inclusive program aims to promote competent and confident cyclists through practical cycle safety and skills training. Our certified instructors guide participants through each stage of the program, ensuring a comprehensive learning experience.

Cycle Right Stage 1

  • Foundation Skills: Stage 1 introduces the basics of cycling, focusing on essential skills such as balance, control, and road awareness. Participants learn how to handle their bikes safely in a controlled environment, preparing them for more advanced stages.

Cycle Right Stage 2

  • Advanced Cycling Skills: Building on Stage 1, Stage 2 helps students move safely to more advanced on-road cycling. Trainees take an active role in decision-making during the journey, facilitated by a trainer. Journeys take place in more complex environments with higher traffic volumes, varying speeds, and more intricate road scenarios. Key learning points include:

    • Road positioning to best protect cyclists.
    • Navigating complex (two-lane) roundabouts and traffic-light-controlled junctions.
    • Changing position within a group of cyclists.
    • Identifying and handling hazards.

    Program Structure:

    • Duration: 3 hours
    • Trainer to trainee ratio: 2:10
    • Format: Trainer-facilitated journeys with active trainee decision-making.

Cycle Right Stage 3

  • Expert Road Skills: At Stage 3, trainees take the lead role on their journeys, planning routes and making active decisions regarding positioning and interaction with traffic in complex environments. The trainer accompanies them, providing assessment and feedback. This stage covers:

    • Planning a journey using maps, GPS, and local knowledge.
    • Navigating high traffic volumes and moving through stopped or slow-moving traffic.
    • Handling complex junctions, including multi-laned roundabouts.
    • Defensive cycling techniques and group cycling in complex traffic environments.
    • Safely cycling near large vehicles and anticipating hazards.

    Program Structure:

    • Duration: 3 hours
    • Trainer to trainee ratio: 2:8
    • Format: Trainee-led journeys with the trainer in an accompanying role.

Group Cycling Lessons

  • Learn Together: Our group cycling lessons provide a supportive and social environment for participants to learn and improve their cycling skills. Led by experienced instructors, these sessions cover a range of topics from basic bike handling to advanced road safety techniques. Group lessons are a great way to build confidence, meet fellow cyclists, and enjoy a shared learning experience.

 

 

Private Cycling Lessons
